Chelsea to offer new contracts to three players following Frank Lampard announcement
CHELSEA are preparing to offer three of their players new contracts at Stamford Bridge after Frank Lampard is revealed as the new manager, it’s been claimed.
Chelsea: Lampard to be confirmed as manager soon says pundit
Chelsea are looking to tie a number of their younger players down to longer contracts, according to the Evening Standard.
After Lampard is announced as the new boss at Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea hierarchy will immediately turn to renewing a number of contracts.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Reece James are all in line for new deals under Lampard.
Mount was a crucial part of Lampard’s set-up at Derby County last season.
Chelsea may be forced into using more of their younger players next season
Loftus-Cheek was used sparingly under former boss Maurizio Sarri, despite a successful campaign the previous season at Crystal Palace.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old James was on loan at Wigan Athletic last season, making 45 appearances.
Chelsea may be forced into using more of their younger players next season, as they won’t be able to sign anyone for the next 12 months.
It’s believed that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy were attracted to Lampard as he worked with a number of younger players last season, at Derby.
It’s also believed that Callum Hudson-Odoi will choose to stay longer at Chelsea after Lampard’s appointment.
The winger has only one year left on his current contract, and was the subject of a number of bids from Bayern Munich.
Defender Andreas Christensen is also more likely to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard was Chelsea’s first choice to takeover from Sarri, who left for Juventus earlier this month.
Lampard will return to Chelsea if he can agree personal terms, as the Blues agreed to pay his £4m release clause from Derby.
“Derby County can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge,” said the Rams.
“With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.
“The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so."
