Leeds United to make announcement over Marcelo Bielsa future soon - Sky Sports reporter
MARCELO BIELSA’s future at Leeds United is set to become clear in the next few days, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.
Bielsa led Leeds United to a third-placed finish in the Championship in his first season in charge.
However, they were dumped out of the play-offs at the semi-final stage by Derby last week in a thrilling match at Elland Road.
Since then, Bielsa’s future has been up in the air with 12 months remaining on his contract.
Thornton says Leeds have an option to extend Bielsa’s stay at the club for another year.
Talks with Bielsa are ongoing, Leeds do have the option to extend his stay
He reckons the potential takeover from Qatar Sports Investments could have a say in whether the Argentine stays, though the club have played down those reports.
And Thornton expects an announcement to be made some time this week.
“Well it [the takeover] would be huge wouldn’t it for Bielsa,” Thornton told Sky Sports News.
“He’s managed to get every ounce out of the current squad this season.
“They’ve over performed in many respects.
“He’s come in and he’s performed minor miracles really with some of the players.
“It’s been a fantastic season, Leeds have exceeded a lot of expectations.
“They’ve played some wonderful football but it’s been a challenge for him.
“At times he’s only had one fit striker and they have relied heavily on the academy.
“Those talks with Bielsa are ongoing, Leeds do have the option to extend his stay.
“We’re expecting developments on his future in the next few days.”
