West Ham news: David Moyes bemoans nature of Hammers departure at ‘difficult club’
WEST HAM were a “difficult club” when David Moyes took them over last season and he deserved to leave the London Stadium on his own terms, believes the Scotsman.
West Ham: David Moyes says he thought he did 'good job' at club
Moyes was appointed West Ham manager in November 2017 with the club in the relegation zone.
The former Manchester United boss signed a deal until the end of the season and turned it around for the Hammers, surviving the drop comfortably in 13th.
His arrival was very much seen as a fix-it job, however, and 55-year-old was never looked upon as a long-term solution.
Moyes parted company with West Ham after last term’s curtain-closer against Everton and the club moved quickly to hire Manuel Pellegrini two weeks later.
It was a difficult club at the time, there was strange situations
The decision from the board disappointed Moyes and his backroom staff, although he appreciates the control which David Sullivan, David Gold and Karren Brady wield.
“We thought we did a really good job at West Ham last year,” Moyes told beIN SPORTS.
“It was a difficult club at the time, there was strange situations. But we felt we got the results.”
Asked to confirm whether he in fact resigned, Moyes replied: “Not really.
“It was more to do with just getting told the day after the last game of the season - we’d just beaten Everton - that they would be going for somebody else.
“So we weren’t really aware of it prior to that.
“If you’re the owner of a football club you can make your own decisions, that’s your choice.
“We felt as if we’d done a really good job at West Ham and deserved to stay in place if we’d chosen to do so.”
