Angel Di Maria: Man Utd legend sends message to PSG star after failed Old Trafford spell
ANGEL DI MARIA has a point to prove during Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League tie against Manchester United.
That is according to BT Sport pundit and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand.
Di Maria was named in the PSG starting XI for the Champions League last-16 first-leg clash at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
The Argentina international had an unsuccessful spell at United a few seasons ago.
Louis van Gaal signed Di Maria for a then club-record fee of £59.7million in 2014.
Di Maria’s coming here with a point to prove
However, the winger only made 32 appearances for the Red Devils before leaving in the summer of 2015 for PSG.
And ahead of kick off on Tuesday, Ferdinand said the 30-year-old would be keen to showcase his talent at his former club.
“Di Maria’s coming here with a point to prove,” Ferdinand said.
“He was here not long, didn’t do it here. Huge talent.”
Ferdinand also warned United about the threat of PSG striker Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe was given a central starting role due to the absence of Edinson Cavani through injury.
“I love him. The kid’s got it all,” the ex-defender said of the France World Cup winner.
“He does things that veteran players are still trying to work out.
“He simplifies the game when he needs to, he makes the right decisions.
“Yeah he’s going to make the odd mistake because he’s still so young.
“But invariably he makes the right decisions at important times in games.”
