Tottenham transfer news: Adrien Rabiot would prefer Liverpool move and could snub Spurs
ADRIEN RABIOT would rather than Liverpool as he considers an offer from Tottenham, according to reports in France.
Adrien Rabiot has made his mind up over transfer says pundit
Spurs have reportedly launched a bid for the Frenchman who is set to leave the Ligue 1 leaders upon the expiry of his contract in the summer.
Despite Thomas Tuchel being short in midfield, Rabiot continues to be exiled from the first-team set up after he made the decision not to sign an extension.
Sporting director Antero Henrique is furious that PSG will lose him on a free transfer and ordered the German boss not to select him again.
Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both reportedly held negotiations with his entourage but now Tottenham have entered the fray.
PSG are desperate to sell the player this month and Paris United claim that the north London club have tabled a £4million signing fee with a contract worth £6.5m per year to Rabiot.
Daniel Levy has a good relationship with PSG after successfully signing Serge Aurier and Lucas Moura from the club.
But the same report claims that Rabiot is now hesitating on the offer from Tottenham and is taking his time to reflect before making a decision.
On the one hand the idea of living in London is very appealing, especially to reunite with his former team-mates Aurier and Moura.
However Rabiot’s preferred destination in the Premier League is Liverpool if he is ever to move to England.
Jurgen Klopp was said to be monitoring the 23-year-old but they have since cooled off their interest.
Rabiot revealed back in October before he was frozen out of the PSG squad, that he used to support the Reds as a boy.
“There are a lot of very good leagues. It’s also enriching to go elsewhere, but for the moment I’m happy at PSG,” he told RMC Sport.
“I would love to play in the Premier League. There’s not necessarily any club in particular, even though when I was young I was a big Liverpool fan.
“Yes, I can understand that my ambition, my impatience can annoy some people.
“But the main thing is that it has been useful to me, today I am here, sometimes you have to dare to say things.”
Rabiot is free to talk to any clubs from now as he enters the final six months of his deal and could still leave PSG before the window closes.
Former Arsenal striker and ESPN FC pundit Paul Marriner has claimed that he can see a deal happening and that Tottenham is a good fit for the player.
“Yes [Tottenham would suit him],” Mariner said.
“I like this lad a lot. I think they [PSG] do need to keep him but I don’t think they can or will keep him.
“I think there will be other suitors as well. I think he’s already made his mind up that he wants to leave PSG.
“So I’m going to say for him, yep, it’s going to happen [to Tottenham].”
