Liverpool: Klopp will be judged on trophies says John Toshack
That’s the fear of former Reds front-man John Toshack.
The Reds lost the final of the Champions League last season having fallen at the final hurdle in the Carabao Cup and Europa League in his first year in charge.
They are primed to compete for the Premier League title this term but go up against a Manchester City juggernaut currently on course to beat the 100-point top-flight record they set last year.
Klopp has completed a major overhaul to get Liverpool in position to challenge for major honours, with the Merseyside outfit having languished well outside the top four when he first arrived.
But despite back-to-back years of qualifying for the Champions League, criticism has been sent Klopp’s way given Liverpool’s long wait for silverware.
They have not won a trophy since 2012, losing a final of every domestic and European cup competition since then, and have only won one trophy in the last 13 years.
With Klopp having spent in excess of £20million on eight different players - including massive fees on the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson - during his tenure, many neutrals think the German is under pressure to deliver a trophy.
And Toshack, who won three league titles and two UEFA Cups in eight years at Liverpool, insists that is exactly the case because of the club’s illustrious history.

At the end of the day, the years go by, people remember the trophies.

But he believes once Liverpool end their trophy drought then numerous honours will then follow.
He told the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red podcast: “At the end of the day, particularly at the top clubs like Liverpool, you’re going to be judged by the trophies that you win.
“You might think it’s not fair, you have a terrific season and just miss out, finish runners up in a really good championship campaign, be beaten in the semi-finals of a cup or whatever.
“At the end of the day, the years go by, people remember the trophies.
“To be three years and four seasons at Liverpool and be trophy-less, from a distance you say, ‘That is not successful. It can’t be.’
