Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp slammed - ‘that’s why Man City will win the league easily’
LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp got his team selection WRONG for the Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.
Liverpool: ‘All players’ available for Fulham clash says Klopp
That is the opinion of former Arsenal and England forward Paul Merson.
Liverpool suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of Red Star to put their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages in doubt.
Klopp left star striker Roberto Firmino out of the starting XI, with Daniel Sturridge deputising.
Joel Matip played at centre-back in place of Joe Gomez, with Adam Lallana also given a rare start in midfield.
This is the problem and this is why I always say Man City will win the league by double digits
Merson says Liverpool could struggle to make the Champions League last-16 now, with a win over Paris-Saint Germain or Napoli needed in the last two group games.
And the Sky Sports pundit claims selection decisions like in midweek from Klopp shows why Liverpool will not win the Premier League this season and Manchester City will.
“I think the manager got it wrong,” Merson said.
“I think the manager sent out a signal to say ‘we’ll win this, I can play other players’. Play your best team, play your best team.
Liverpool: Sturridge and Lallana ‘try too hard’ says pundit
“This is the problem and this is why I always say Manchester City will win the league by double digits.
“They just blow everybody away and Liverpool struggle.
“They were taken to the distance by Huddersfield, taken to the distance by Brighton at home, have to play until the 93rd, 94th minute and it catches up.
“I just think play your best team, this is the Champions League.
“All of a sudden now they’re in trouble if you get beat by PSG, and Napoli are decent.
"Play your best team. I was disappointed, disappointed.
“I think sometimes the manager does get it wrong, he does do this.
“I think keep on playing your best team, you’ve been here long enough now you know it can come back to bite you.”
