has been hit with a £43,000 fine (£21,500 suspended) after he crossed a live race track on foot at the sprint race on Saturday.

The McLaren star found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time during the opening lap of the sprint race and was collected when Lewis Hamilton came together with the two Aston Martin cars at Turn One.

Norris was sent spinning out into the run-off area while Stroll was also taken out of contention with the damage to his AMR24 challenger proving too much to continue.

While the crash was deemed a racing incident with no further action from the stewards, Norris was placed under investigation and later punished on top of his DNF after he crossed the track on foot to get to the pit lane.

F1 Miami Grand Prix Sprint Qualifying

This was a fate that befell Lewis Hamilton at the Qatar Grand Prix last season. The seven-time world champion beached his W14 in the gravel after a collision with his team-mate on the opening lap.

After climbing out of the cockpit, Hamilton strolled across the tarmac to the pit lane. Following an investigation from the stewards, the 39-year-old was slapped with a £43,000 (€50,000) fine, half of which was suspended for the remainder of the season.

The fine will be the least of Norris' concerns though as his DNF ended McLaren's run of scoring with both cars in every event of the 2024 campaign thus far.

Norris' weekend started with plenty of promise. The 24-year-old looked like the man to beat after the first two rounds of sprint qualifying, but an extremely messy final run in SQ2 left him down in P9 for the race start.

However, the McLaren star wasn't the only driver to endure a miserable sprint race in Miami. Kevin Magnussen picked up three separate 10-second time penalties following a tense battle with Hamilton.

The Mercedes star also picked up a penalty of his own, receiving a drive-through penalty, converted to a 20-second post-race penalty, that kicked him out of the points-paying positions.
