George Russell confesses to causing crash on purpose and arguing over table reservation

Mercedes star George Russell made some surprising revelations when put under the microscope during a lie detector test.

Mercedes: What’s gone wrong at the F1 and can they recover?

has revealed he once deliberately caused a crash on a race circuit as the star went under the microscope and told his darkest secrets. The British racer has emerged as one of the sport's leading figures since partnering with the Silver Arrows and has earned a growing fanbase for his exploits in F1, but supporters may have discovered another side to the talented driver after his shock confession.

Russell undertook a lie detector test, which was broadcast before the Canadian Grand Prix on Sky Sports F1. And Mercedes fans would have been shocked to hear some of the 25-year-old's answers as he rattled through dozens of questions.

Some were related to his F1 career, ranging from whether he is faster than Lewis Hamilton to his rivalry with close friend Lando Norris.

Others were more of a broad scope and about his own personal life, with Russell quizzed on speeding fines and bizarrely quizzed on whether he has ever put a bunch of grapes in his mouth and pretended to be a hamster.

But the most surprising answers he gave were in reference to his conduct on and off the race track, with Russell showing a ruthless side that hasn't been often seen in F1.

When he was asked if he had ever crashed into someone on purpose, Russell simply replied: "Yes", and the lie detector analyst confirmed he was telling the truth.

He was then asked to elaborate on who he had deliberately crashed into. Russell didn't name the driver involved but recalled an incident from earlier in his racing career when he was a young prodigy - and defended his actions way back when. "When I was go-karting, it was part of the game," he said.

The Briton was later quizzed on if he had repeated such antics since his F1 debut in 2019, to which he replied: "No." Once again, he was deemed to have been telling the truth.

Russell, who looked quite uncomfortable at certain points during the 15-minute exercise as his answers were scrutinised, conceded there was one incident where his new-found fame may have exposed itself while he was out at dinner.

Asked if he had ever uttered the phrase ‘do you know who I am?’ Russell surprisingly confirmed he had - but spoke of how he later regretted how he came across after he argued over a table booking.

"I think so but it was because I had a table reservation. It was something I wish I wouldn’t have said," he added.
