ANDREW FLINTOFF's last meaningful contribution for his country came in 2009 when he ran out Ricky Ponting in an Ashes finale at The Oval.

This week he'll be out to prove that he's still capable of packing a punch in the Big Bash.

Flintoff's comeback from retirement this summer certainly lit up the domestic Twenty20 competition.

His contribution for Lancashire in the final – he scored 20 in eight balls and dismissed Ian Bell in his opening over – showed his body is still in robust shape.

He also clearly convinced Brisbane Heat that he was worthy of a contract for the Big Bash, which begins in Adelaide on Thursday.

"He gets bums on seats, he's box office," said Brisbane Heat coach, Stuart Law. "He's also a player the Aussie crowds still love."

Michael Carberry, who will play with the Perth Scorchers, admits Flintoff, 37, still has the ability to excite.

"To me, he looks like he still has it," he said.

After arriving Down Under, Flintoff admitted he was looking forward to catching up with former teammate Kevin Pietersen, Melbourne Stars' big-name recruit.

On Pietersen's hopes of an England return, Flintoff said: "I have probably got more chance, to be honest. It seems the England side is moving on without him."
