The presenter made the awkward blunder when he tried to joke with the comedian on yesterday's breakfast show.
He laughed: "Yes but, no but…"
Catherine was quick to point out he had his television characters mixed up as she explained the catchphrase he used was from Little Britain not the Catherine Tate Show.
The 48-year-old told him: "Yeah but no but is not me but. Yes but no but, that was Little Britain!"

Charlie was left red-faced following the awkward mix-up
As the Lauren Cooper star laughed at his mix up, Charlie profusely apologised for the confusion.
Putting his head in his hands he insisted: "I'm so sorry! I'm so sorry!"
Catherine reassured the host that she wasn't offended by the error as she joked: "Am I bovvered? Am I bovvered that you go it wrong?
"Look at my face. Is my face bovvered that you got my catchphrase wrong? No. Look face, Charlie face. I ain't bovvered."
Catherine laughed at Charlie and told him that she wasn't 'bovvered'
Naga Munchetty cringed in the background as Charlie held his head in his hands
While she kept her composure during the awkward interview, his co-host Naga Munchetty couldn't stop cringing in the background.
The BBC presenter, who was eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night, also poked fun at Charlie as she corrected him.
BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
