Gloria Hunniford and Kaye Adams come to blows as burkini debate gets heated on Loose Women
THINGS got a little heated on the Loose Women panel today, as Kaye Adams and Gloria Hunniford had rather different views on the burkini ban in France.
Loose Women divided on forced Burka removal in French Beach
Photographs emerged this morning of the shocking moment armed police confronted and fined a woman for wearing a burkini as she walked out of the sea on a popular beach.
The images spurred panellists Kaye, Gloria, Ferne McCann, EastEnders actress Nina Wadia and 'boy of summer' Peter Andre to discuss the question "Should burkinis be banned from the beach?"
Kaye insisted that the woman in the picture was actually born in France and that "France was about freedom".
However, Gloria said: "I'm not defending this at all, but if I was playing devils advocate, I'd think 'what is being hidden under that garment?'"
As the discussion continued to get more heated, Kaye said: "But, if terrorists want to cause havoc they will do it!"
Gloria Hunniford and Kaye Adams had different views on the burkini ban on today's Loose Women
Panellists were discussing these images of a woman being confronted by police in France
Peter agreed with Kaye and said he failed to understand why the woman wearing the burkini couldn't just wear what she wanted, while Nina said: "We're living in times where these discussions will happen. This is not good for Islam because there are good muslims all over the world."
Unsurprisingly, the debate had numerous people talking on Twitter, with one person posting: "Stopping the #burkini isn't going to stop #terrorism! This is just causing more #hate @loosewomen"
Another ranted: "@loosewomen what's difference between a burkini and a wetsuit with hood and boots? Really sad turn of events."
"@loosewomen. Where is a Woman going to hide a Bomb? In her Vagina? Really!!" a further person shared.
Viewers took to Twitter to discuss the debate
Peter said he didn't understand why the woman couldn't wear what she wanted
A fourth wrote: "@loosewomen you cannot justify forcing women to strip in public. 4 armed police officers demanded she removed her clothes... disgusting!"
"@loosewomen the French burkini issue Gloria said how do we know what they're wearing under that, they're wearing their human skin! #shameonu," another posted.
However, Kaye was keen to deliver the mixed opinions during the show and said that some viewers had pointed out: "If you can't live in a country and follow their rules, then, don't live in it."
Loose Women continues tomorrow at 12.30pm on ITV.
