Amazon has provided a major update on the future of its Fallout series – and it's good news for fans. The live-action adaptation of the hugely popular video game franchise launched on Prime Video last week (April 11) to universal acclaim from both critics and fans.

It quickly became the number one series on the platform, with viewers hailing it as “one of the best video-game adaptations” ever and “on par with The Last of Us”. Fallout takes place 200 years after the apocalypse, set in the world of the video games yet following a new and original story centred around Lucy (Ella Purnell), a denizen of a luxury fallout shelter who is forced to traverse California’s irradiated wasteland in search of her kidnapped father.

In its first four days on Prime Video, the series became a hit with audiences around the world, ranking among the platform’s top three most-watched titles ever and the most-watched season globally since Rings of Power. Now Amazon has made an announcement that will be music to the ears of Fallout fans.

On Friday (April 19), Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, officially announced that Fallout will return for a second season that will “take viewers even farther into the surreal world of Fallout.”

“The bar was high for lovers of this iconic video game and so far, we seem to have exceeded their expectations, while bringing in millions of new fans to the franchise,” she said. “The cast led by Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins and Kyle MacLachlan have knocked it out of the park!”

“We’d like to thank [executive producers] Jonah [Nolan] and Lisa [Joy] and our friends at Bethesda for bringing the show to, us as well as Geneva [Robertson-Dworet] and Graham [Wagner] for coming aboard as showrunners.  We are thrilled to announce season two after only one week and take viewers even farther into the surreal world of Fallout.”

All eight episodes of Fallout are available to watch now on Prime Video. It is included with an Amazon Prime subscription, which usually costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year, but Fallout fans can watch the entire series absolutely free if they sign up for a 30-day free trial, as well as bagging some official Fallout merchandise from Amazon’s dedicated store.
