ITV Vera's Kenny Doughty sparks 'return' plea from fans after link to BBC drama
Kenny Doughty confirmed he was leaving Vera after a decade on the show and fans have been left devastated by his absence, with many now begging him to return
Kenny Doughty, star of Vera, has ignited a flurry of appeals from fans eager for his 'return' to the popular drama, a year after he announced his departure.
Doughty filmed his last scenes as Aiden Healy, the second sidekick, towards the end of 2022, joining co-stars Brenda Blethyn, Riley Jones and Jon Morrison for the Christmas special The Rising Tide. After causing concern among fans by sharing a series of behind-the-scenes photos from Vera on his Instagram with the caption "Thank you for the memories".
Doughty confirmed weeks later that he had left the show, reflecting on the difficult decision to 'hand in his badge'. Devoted viewers were devastated by the news of Doughty's departure from Vera, and were then taken aback by the announcement that his predecessor, David Leon, was making a surprise comeback as Joe Ashworth.

As Leon returned to set, Doughty married fellow actor Ashley Jensen in November of last year, shortly after she had filmed scenes as the new lead in Shetland, another BBC drama penned by Vera author Ann Cleeves.
Earlier this month, Kenny disclosed that he had joined Ashley in Shetland as she reprised her role of Ruth Calder for another series. His location was revealed when he shared a picture of their dogs enjoying a breathtaking view, which quickly sparked a flurry of Vera-related comments.

It has been confirmed that Kenny's former Vera co-stars will soon commence filming for the 14th series of the beloved drama, set to return with two new episodes in 2025.
