ITV's Nolly star Helena Bonham Carter has opened up about the real reason she split from her partner of thirteen years Tim Burton and shared why they never married. The Crown actress made the revelation during an appearance on Jo Whiley's BBC Radio 2 show.

She and Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davis were on together when she confessed that she is "scattered" and has "too many ideas" which affects her relationships. "I am a Gemini. This is why I've never done Desert Island Discs. I’m really scattered. Scattered is the understatement," she said.

Confirming that she had been asked to appear on the popular long-running radio show, she reasoned: "I just knew it would be too stressful. I’d drive them nuts [with her indecisiveness].

"I drive people up the wall. I'm just really scattered. Scattered is probably the understatement," she laughed. "That's probably why I split up with my ex – just too many ideas. Too many! Shut up. Just keep it simple," she said as Russell and Jo laughed in the background.

Describing how her daughter has five middle names she opined: "I mean that’s indecision or ADHD or whatever you call it." "And it’s quite overwhelming I can imagine," Jo sympathised.

"It can be very knackering and not only for oneself but for everybody around one," Helena acknowledged. "It can be deeply irritating."

Jo then brought up Helena's "ex-husband" as she clapped back: "Well he's obviously gone!"

"Actually We never married. That was too much of a decision," she laughed.

Helena and director Tim Burton were together from 2001 until 2014, when they announced their separation.

The former couple share two children - son Billy and daughter Nell.

Despite never making their partnership official, Helena has referred to her break-up with filmmaker Tim as a “divorce”.

"With divorce, you go through massive grief—it is a death of a relationship, so it's utterly bewildering. Your identity, everything, changes," she told Harper's Bazaar.

“I could write a thesis on what’s happened,” The Crown actress has also told RED in another interview. “[I]t is all-absorbing when a relationship breaks down, but I think we’re coming through it.

“I think we’ll have something very precious still. Our relationship was always somewhat special, and I think it’ll always remain special.”
