Bodyguard has been a big hit for the BBC, leading many to wonder whether we will get a second season.
Although Bodyguard creator Jed Mercurio has expressed his willingness to make Bodyguard season two, he has also expressed some concerns.
Here’s what we know about whether there will be a Bodyguard season two.
The broadcaster holds all the cards
Will there be a Bodyguard season 2?
Show creator Jed Mercurio told the Radio Times he “absolutely” would want a second season, but added: “The broadcaster holds all the cards.”
He also expressed a concern Richard Madden’s star turn in the series would mean he was unavailable for Bodyguard season two.
He said: “He’s the genuine article, a real leading man. And I think this role has put him very much in the spotlight for bigger things.
“So the practicality may be that we have to work round his availability, if we are lucky enough to get him back.”

This seems to put to bed thoughts that Mercurio, who also created Line of Duty, would take the “anthology series” route, focusing on a new bodyguard.
He also said that he would “rather not” kill him off mid-next season if the actor had other commitments.
He said: “It would leave a massive plot hole.”
In the interview, he also said he would not be having any conversations about Bodyguard season two with the BBC until the finale had aired.
Mercurio explained: “Some shows do nosedive at the end, or some piece of content could become incredibly controversial and affect the way the show is seen.”
However, on this Morning on Wednesday, September 19, he admitted he was "just beginning that conversation with the BBC" about a second series.
"We know that people out there are loving series one and that there would be an appetite for series two, but we'll just have to wait and see,” he said.
Bodyguard has been a huge hit for the BBC, with the first episode drawing in more than 10 million viewers.
This made the show the UK’s biggest debut drama since 2006, when the pilot episode of ITV’s Inspector Morse spin-off Lewis drew in 11.31million.
Since the first episode, the drama has actually increased its viewing figures, with 11.1million people watching episode four according to BARB.
We will know for sure whether there will be a Bodyguard season two soon when conversations between Mercurio and the BBC conclude.
