She was offered a part in the Channel Five series that has a global audience of two billion after she wrote to Hollywood executives praising the show.

The 42 year old has been invited to appear during a two-hour special being filmed in Paris. CSI executive producer Carol Mendelsohn told France’s Purepeople website: “Carla Bruni wrote to us to say she adored our show.

“So we would be delighted to offer her a part in our CSI film, set in France.”

The former model has just completed filming for a minor role in Woody Allen’s latest work, Midnight in Paris. Despite not having a speaking part in her role as a museum curator, it took the wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy 35 attempts to shoot one scene because she kept looking into the camera.

An onlooker said: “The scene could not have been simpler but she wanted to make it a big one. That’s why she had to keep shooting it over and over again.

“Woody was prompting Carla constantly, although he was very careful to show a lot of respect, especially as she was surrounded by security guards.”

In November, when she announced her plans to accept Allen’s offer of a role, she said: “I’m not at all an actress. Maybe I’ll be absolutely terrible.”
