Household favourite Nescafe has started selling a version aimed atwomen, and it comes with the beauty-

enhancing ingredient  collagen.

So rather than applying lotions and potions to plump out lips and smooth out lines, users can simply sip away any unwanted lumps and bumps.

Sachets contain coffee, skimmed milk and 200mg of collagen –  a protein found naturally in body tissue.

Although the precise beauty benefits of mixing collagen with coffee areunclear this product is part of a

much wider trend known as “nutri-cosmetics”.

This is where food and drink manufacturers promote new products by emphasising the positive effect they

can have on the hair, eyes, skin or general appearance.

David Jago, director of trends and innovation at market analysts Mintel, explained: “collagen is just one popular ingredient used tolend a more skin/beauty-friendly image to a product, and is increasingly found not just in beauty products but also in food and drink products – including coffee.”

Some experts question how drinking collagen can boost levels in the skin. They think it will simply be broken down by the gut and excreted.

And British women should not ditch their collagen creams and lip fillers just yet because the drink has so far made its debut only in Singapore.

Swiss-based manufacturer Nestle has no immediate plans to launch it here.

Shoppers in Japan and Singapore are already fans of beauty-boosting food and drink products. And Mr Jago predicted consumers in europe would start following this trend as more brands decide to launch their nutri-cosmetic products over here.
