Film insiders claim Sheen, 40, is set to portray Ernst Stavros Blofeld in the next instalment of the Bond film series.

The evil character, who has been portrayed by the likes of Donald Pleasence, Telly Savalas and Charles Gray, has appeared in six previous Bond flicks but his last outing was in Never Say Never Again in 1983.

Reports of Sheen’s potential involvement come just days after it was confirmed that his friend Peter Morgan, the writer of Frost/Nixon, is to work on the next Bond script.

The film, again featuring Daniel Craig in the lead role, is due to be released in 2011.

“Michael is hot property right now and it’s felt he’s the man to bring Blofeld back to life,” says our Bond mole.

“Michael was a Bond fan in his youth, so this would be a dream role for him.”
