Police protester beaten to death
A man protesting against police brutality was beaten to death by a mob which included serving officers.
More than 60 people have gone on trial in Istanbul over the death of Engin Ceber, 29.
Many suspects, including prison guards, policemen and soldiers, were not present on the opening day.
Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin has apologised to the Mr Ceber's family in a rare gesture, admitting that he had suffered "ill treatment."
Allegations of torture by security forces have long stained Turkey's human rights record. Human rights groups say offenders often remain unpunished.
