Spanish police arrest man who left rucksack and said 'let's see if it explodes'
POLICE in Alicante have arrested a man who left a rucksack in the Costa Blanca resort and shouted: "I'm leaving it here. Let's see if it explodes."
The man was arrested yesterday, 24 hours after the London terror attack.
Bomb squad officers with sniffer dogs had to cordon off the city centre area the rucksack had been left in.
It turned out to be a false alarm as there were only clothes inside
They gave the all-clear around an hour after being called.
The man suspected over the false alarm was held after a police probe to identify him and track him down.
He was arrested for allegedly committing a public order offence and was due to go before a judge in a private court hearing today.
The 43-year-old has not been named.
A spokesman for Spain's National Police confirmed: "We have arrested a man who left a rucksack in Alicante town centre as he shouted: 'I'm leaving it here. Let's see if it explodes.'
"It turned out to be a false alarm as there were only clothes inside."
