'Male pilot dead' after plane smashes into a MOTORWAY in Germany

A MALE pilot has been killed after a plane smashed into a MOTORWAY in Germany, according to local reports.

Dramatic pictures from the scene show a small aircraft crashed between a fence and a guardrail - just four metres away from where cars would have been passing.

The plane is believed to have got into difficulty around 1:30pm local time, shortly after taking off from a nearby airfield.

Emergency services were swiftly called to the scene and confirmed that one person had died, while three others were seriously injured.

The person who died in the crash is believed to have been a male pilot who was very experienced, according to local reports.

Incredibly, no motorists are believed to have been injured in the incident which took place on the A28, near Oldenburg.

A fire brigade spokesman said: "There is one dead and three seriously injured."

Reports suggest that two of the survivors had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters.

The road remains closed while the wounded have been airlifted to a nearby hospital.

It is not yet known where the plane was flying to, and emergency services are yet to establish the cause of the crash.

Experts from Germany's Federal Aviation Agency have been informed and are believed to be on their way to the scene.
