The 7in black cat was spotted at a home in Penzance, Cornwall, after a family called in auctioneers for a house clearance.

It transpired the cat, from 6,000BC, had belonged to their late father who had worked at Spink & Son, the famed auction house that in 1939 sold the estate of archaeologist Howard Carter, discoverer of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
