Man vows to continue campaign against German doctor who sued him after killing his father

A MAN whose father was killed by a foreign doctor has been told he may have to pay the medic thousands of pounds.

Rory Gray, 49, was sued in a German court by Dr Daniel Ubani, who killed his father David with a drugs overdose, after he and his brother confronted the doctor at a medical conference.

However, Mr Gray has vowed to carry on his campaign against the doctor despite the ruling.

An inquest found David Gray, 70, was unlawfully killed in 2008 after Dr Ubani, who was working as an out-of-hours locum, fatally administered 10 times the normal dose of diamorphine to him at his home in Cambridgeshire.

In 2010, Mr Gray and his brother Stuart confronted Ubani at a German medical conference, calling him a "charlatan", "killer" and "animal".

Now a court in Lindau has ruled that Mr Gray must pay three quarters of the legal costs, running into thousands of pounds, and write Dr Ubani a letter promising never to call him an animal again.

He has also been threatened with a £200,000 fine if he repeats the insult.

A new written ruling from the Amtsgericht civil court in Lindau proposes that Mr Gray pays three quarters of Dr Ubani's legal costs and writes a letter promising never to call him an animal again.

Speaking from his home in Germany, Mr Gray said the latest move would not change his belief that Dr Ubani presents a danger to the public.

He is continuing to practise and people bring their children to see him and yet we have serious doubts that he is qualified and believe people have a right to know that

He added: "He's tried to shut us up and it shows a complete lack of remorse.

"His entire agenda is to prevent the truth coming out."

Mr Gray said the proposal was not a formal order and he had the option to ignore it. He will take legal advice before making a decision.

He said: "I have been banned from using a certain phrase and I won't use that phrase.

"But I will continue to say that Ubani is a charlatan and a killer.

"He is continuing to practise and people bring their children to see him and yet we have serious doubts that he is qualified and believe people have a right to know that."

The disgraced doctor has since refused to return to the UK, where he has been struck off the medical register.

A European arrest warrant was issued by Cambridgeshire Police but could not be carried out because legal proceedings had begun in Germany.

Dr Ubani was charged with death by negligence at a court in Witten and given a nine-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay 5,000 euro (£4,100) costs but has since continued to practise.
