Bush set to attend Olympics opener
President George Bush will probably attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic games in Beijing, the White House's press secretary has said.
Critics of China's human rights record had urged President Bush to boycott the ceremonies to send a message of displeasure to China. Other world leaders are missing the event.
Dana Perino said that President Bush will be in China, and she "would certainly think that the opening ceremonies would be a part of that trip." She said his final schedule has yet to be announced.
President Bush has maintained that the Olympic Games are a sporting event, and he is going to China to support American athletes.
Ms Perino said he will raise issues of human rights and religious freedom in China.
