Teacher drowns on Caribbean holiday
A British woman has died while in the Caribbean, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has confirmed.
Sian Louise Marshall-Plewes died in the Dominican Republic, where she was reportedly on holiday.
In a statement, an FCO spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national, Sian Louise Marshall-Plewes, in the Dominican Republic on August 3.
"We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time."
Ms Marshall-Plewes, 36, an English teacher at the Priory City of Lincoln Academy in Lincolnshire, drowned while swimming in the sea near Sosua Beach on the country's northern coast, according to a report in the Lincolnshire Echo.
In a tribute page on Facebook, former pupils said she was "an amazing teacher".
One comment read: "She was a great teacher - always smiling." Another said: "An inspirational teacher who had so much to offer."
Another tribute read: "A lovely lady that gave all her time to the students and will never be forgotten - thoughts are with your family."
