New Ivory Coast president sworn in
The democratically elected president of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara, has taken the oath of office five months after winning last year's election.
Mr Ouattara spent most of that time barricaded inside a hotel because the country's long-time ruler Laurent Gbagbo, who lost the vote, refused to cede office.
Mr Ouattara raised his right hand and took the oath inside the presidential palace in front of the president of the Ivorian Constitutional Council.
It was Paul Yao N'Dre, the head of the council, who had refused to confirm Mr Ouattara's win in the November 28 election. Mr N'Dre invalidated results from Ouattara strongholds in order to hand victory to Mr Gbagbo.
Hundreds of people were killed in post-election violence.
