Police chief killed in suicide bomb
Suicide bombers have attacked a police headquarters in the northern city of Mosul, killing the commander, Iraqi officials said.
Police officials said three men with explosive vests attempted to blow up a compound housing Iraq's First Police Battalion.
Officers shot one of the bombers as the trio approached the complex but two of them managed to get inside and deploy the explosives, killing the battalion's commander, officials said.
A hospital official confirmed the fatality, but there was no word on the injured.
Insurgents frequently target Iraq's security forces as US troops prepare to leave by the end of 2011.
In a separate incident, five civilians were wounded when a roadside bomb hit an Iraqi police patrol in eastern Baghdad, police and hospital officials said.
