Israel in TV show spat with Turkey
Israel's deputy foreign minister has signalled he regretted humiliating Turkey's ambassador.
Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon summoned Ambassador Ahmet Oguz Celikkol to protest against a Turkish TV show that depicted Israeli intelligence agents in a brutal light.
But in front of Israeli TV crews, Mr Ayalon forced Mr Celikkol to sit lower than him and denied him a handshake.
The snub enraged Turkey and deepened the rift that has emerged over the past year between Israel and its closest friend in the Muslim world.
Mr Ayalon defended his protest but added: "It's not my way to offend ambassadors and in the future I will explain my position in accepted diplomatic ways."
Israel Radio later said Mr Cellikol wants an explicit apology.
