Young collie Iggy plunged over the edge at Beachy Head, East Sussex, as his horrified owners Claire Morris and husband Mark Russell looked on, helpless to stop his fall.

Claire, 50, from Haslemere, Surrey, said: “It was horrible.

“We got on our bellies and began peering over the cliff edge, slowly shuffling along fully expecting to see a body below.

“Then we just spotted this teeny tiny little spot walking around.

“I have no idea how he survived.

“It was high tide and he must have landed in the water in just the right place and at the right angle.”

Claire made an emergency call and the lucky pooch was picked up by Newhaven’s RNLI lifeboat crew.

The crew found the frightened dog cowering at the base of the cliff.

The lucky pup was reunited with his owners shortly afterwards at the RNLI base at Birling Gap.

His only sign of injury was a limp.
