Is this the world's scariest bridge?

VILLAGE elders are looking for a caretaker to sweep snow - from a bridge over a 150 foot canyon.

Village boss Lin Yuhua at Shawan village in Sichuan province, southwest China, 72, said: "The bridge is rather old - it has been there 40 years - and if we don't have someone to sweep the heavy snow off it could fall down."

But Juan has been unable to find any of the other villagers in the 40 household community to help him - and they have now appealed for somebody from outside of the villager to take the job of cleaning snow from the 100 foot long construction.

He said: "Many of the people here are old and this bridge is the only way we can get to the mainland. If it collapses we would be stuck. On once side we have a mountain and on the other side a river that is always a raging torrent.

"Because the bridge is our only way out we call it safety bridge - because it is our lifeline. I suppose it was at one time - but there are a few too many open spaces between the wooden planks."

Another villager Zhao Jihong said some of the locals that had purchased motorbikes had badly damaged the bridge - but they had stopped using the motorbikes since a pole broke, and the bridge started slanting to one side.
