Knife wielding chef who threatened to kill 'love rival' in busy restaurant is jailed
A CHEF who burst into a busy restaurant with three knives threatening to kill a love-rival cook has been jailed.
James Daunter (L) threatened to kill fellow chef William Troubridge (C)
The terror began when drunken James Daunter, 42, carrying a carving knife, shouted: “I’m going to kill him”, just yards from where diners were sitting.
Daunter left the Brewers Fayre restaurant in Llanfoist, Abergavenny, Gwent, after a scuffle on November 28, Cardiff Crown Court was told.
But he returned two hours later with three large knives to look for fellow chef William Troubridge, 36, prosecutor Chris Evans said.
Staff fled and Mr Troubridge and waitress Katie McDonald, 32, who had been in a relationship with Daunter for four years, hid in an office.
James Daunter was jailed for 19 months
Daunter, jailed for 19 months, was arrested nearby. Ros Rutter, defending, said the father of two was “horrified” at CCTV footage of his rampage.
Daunter admitted breaching public order, assault by beating, criminal damage, affray, a threat with a bladed article and possession of cannabis.
Recorder Peter Rouch QC told him people must have found it “very, very frightening indeed.
This comes especially after the events in London last year, with public perception of people waving knives around at its highest”.
