BREXIT broker Guy Verhofstadt has insisted the General Election result will have no impact on the EU but said he would love Tim Farron to win.
Brexit negotiator Guy Verhofstadt has taken another swipe at Theresa May
The former Belgian Prime Minister, now leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in the European parliament, said nothing would change if the Tories won by a large margin.
Mr Verhofstadt, who was appointed its lead Brexit negotiator for the European Parliament last year, said he spent a lot of time in the UK but would not be crossing the Channel until after the elections.
In an interview with The Sunday Times he acknowledged tensions were running high and said he hoped Tim Farron’s Liberal Democrats got a good result on June 8.

And he accused Theresa May of trying to make Brexit a central theme of the election.
Mr Verhofstadt told the Sunday Times: “I will next visit Britain after the general election. Tensions are high right now.
“Theresa May has made the election about Brussels but then complains “Brussels has said something!”
“Let me say to her: the election result will have no impact on the EU.

“Nothing will change if the Conservatives win a bigger majority.
“Still, I am a liberal, so I would like the Lib Dems to get a big result.
“The last time David Davis visited, I joked ‘Welcome to hell’ but, of course, my priority is to fight for both EU and UK citizens.”
Guy Verhofstadt said Theresa May had made the election about Brexit
Mr Verhofstadt claimed he received tens of thousand of letters each week from people concerned about their futures after Brexit.
He said: “Every day I receive maybe 5,000 letters about Brexit. They express so much uncertainty and fear, we must react positively to them.
“One of my plans is to help create a link for Brits who want to remain connected to Europe.”
