Police officers and ambulance crews were called to the scene in Walthamstow, east London, just after 9pm on Monday.
The victim was found with serious stab injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
They are described as three white males aged in their twenties all wearing dark tracksuit bottoms and dark jackets with hoods.

Detective Sergeant Ben Voss said: "This was a violent attack on a pensioner who was trying to run his shop.
"The assailants used an extreme level of violence against elderly man who was trying to defend himself, his wife, customers and business.
"The attack could have resulted in tragic consequences but luckily the victim is now recovering in hospital.
