VIDEO: Drunk Aintree racegoer 'deliberately knocked elderly man to ground'

AN AINTREE racegoer is being quizzed by police over an alleged assault after a video emerged online showing an elderly man being knocked to the ground.

Onlookers can be heard gasping in shock as they rush to the elderly man's aid as he falls to the ground, outside the racecourse where 150,000 visitors flocked for the Grand National. 

The victim suffered injuries to his face after the assault and Merseyside police said they are now questioning the man who came forward after a video appeared online. 

The shocking footage was captured by a brazen friend of the suited and staggering racegoer.

He his heard shouting "text bomb" and "is there any need?" before the man is shoulder barged as he laughs uncontrollably from behind his phone.

Twitter user Michelle McCowen

On Facebook Gary Mangan posted a message saying: "I was the lad putting him in the recovery position!!

"He was bleeding and his teeth where on the floor! Unaware at the time he had pushed him but I could hear the lad filming laughing so I shouted after them."

Disgusted viewers have posted message expressing their shock online. 

Michelle McCowen wrote: "Absolutely knocked me sick that. Hope he's okay."

And Rhian McPhail tweeted: "Disgusting behaviour!"

A police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police has been made aware of a video showing a man shoulder-barging another, older man, over in a road near to the Aintree racecourse.

"The incident is being treated as assault and officers are speaking to several people believed to have further information that could help the investigation.

"We would continue to welcome any information from anyone who witnessed the incident itself on 101."

A statement later said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that a man has tonight voluntarily attended a local police station and will be spoken to by officers about an alleged assault in the Aintree area in which another man was pushed to the floor and suffered a facial injury."
