Roy Keane has denied the alleged road rage incident

The former United midfielder is accused of allegedly distressing Fateh Kerar, 44, near traffic lights in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

Keane did not attend the brief hearing before Trafford magistrates today but his lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Mr Kerar, from Altrincham, says an altercation took place after he and his passenger noticed Keane in his Range Rover.

Keane, 43, is accused of causing harassment, alarm or distress on January 30 having been charged with a section 4a public order offence.

The court heard the prosecution will call two witnesses – Mr Kerar and his taxi passenger. Defence will call Keane and another witness. There was no CCTV of the incident, the court heard.

Keane, of Hale, will appear before Manchester Magistrates Court on June 19.

Now assistant manager with the Republic of Ireland, Keane also played for Nottingham Forest and Celtic before becoming manager at Sunderland and Ipswich.

He quit as assistant manager at Aston Villa last year to concentrate on his job with the international side.
