Police raids took place across Manchester and Lancashire

The boy was held in Blackburn, Lancs, after police examined a number of electronic devices and raided a house in the town.

The girl was arrested after police raided a house in Longsight, Manchester, as part of the same investigation.

Both were bailed until May 28. The inquiry involves the North West Counter Terrorism Unit, Greater Manchester Police and Lancashire Constabulary.

Police said the examination of what they described as a “number of electronic devices” led them to search the house in Blackburn on Thursday.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of preparing for an act of terrorism. The girl was held the following day on suspicion of engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism.

The arrests come as nine individuals from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, are being held in Turkey after allegedly trying to cross into war-torn Syria.

It is not believed the arrests in the UK are linked to events in Turkey.
