Cara Newton, 32, who was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2009, was relieved when chemotherapy worked.

But she and her 34-year-old husband Chris were devastated when they were told they would never be able to have a family.

At first, they tried IVF using a donor egg. Then, just 10 months later, Cara became pregnant naturally and gave birth to Sebastian.

Cara, of Fleet, Hampshire, said: “I was heartbroken when By Dan Townend doctors told me I had zero chance of ever becoming a mum.

“Chemotherapy had taken my hair, made me sick and plummeted my body into early menopause.

“We decided to try IVF as even though the baby wouldn’t biologically be mine, at least I would experience pregnancy and we’d become parents.

“I was gutted when it failed. But months later I fell pregnant naturally. We both felt like it was a miracle.”

Sebastian is nearly a year old and Cara said: “Being a mum to him is the best thing in the world.”

Julie Harrington, of the Bone Cancer Research Trust, said: “Cara’s story gives a ray of hope to others in their darkest times.”
