The Independent Police Complaints Commission has also received claims that some officers may have colluded with the Asian paedophiles who raped vulnerable girls in the town.

The IPCC has been investigating the way officers handled sex abuse cases following attacks on 1,400 children over a 16-year period.

It has expanded its probe after 30 more complaints were made in the past five months.

In November 2014, the IPCC announced 10 police officers were involved in incidents highlighted in a report by Professor Alexis Jay.

She exposed how the authorities, fearing being branded racist, allowed gangs of Pakistani men to target young women.

Girls were raped, trafficked and assaulted while police, social workers and child protection staff in the Labour-run Rotherham Council took no action.
