David Stocker blasted British divorce laws

David Stocker condemned as “unfair” a ruling that his wife Avril should get property worth £1.8million after a 15-year marriage, leaving him with just £250,000.

Mr Stocker, 61, who claims he is now “too poor” to get back on the housing ladder, said: “We have got no kids.

"Why is it not 50/50?”

But his ex-wife, 62, said: “When you get divorced you become poor.

Why is it not 50/50?

"The only people who have won out of this are the lawyers.”

The Stockers, who jointly ran a thriving construction business, lived in a five-bedroom house in Ruislip, north-west London, had a £500,000 villa in Spain and a £100,000 yacht.

Mr Stocker was challenging a divorce court ruling in the Court of Appeal but judges upheld the original decision.

Mr Justice Blake said he must accept his reduced circumstances, adding: “None of the matters he raises is a basis for appeal which has any prospect of success.”
