Claudia Lawrence murder suspect back at home as police follow 'new lines of inquiry'
A GRANDFATHER arrested on suspicion of murdering missing chef Claudia Lawrence was back at home with his wife yesterday.
The man was questioned for 29 hours over the disappearance of Claudia Lawrence
Police released the man, who is in his 50s, on bail after declaring they needed more time to follow up new lines of inquiry.
His wife declined to comment on his arrest or his 29 hours of questioning by murder squad detectives.
It is thought she and her husband later left their home in York to visit relatives.
Last night, a police source revealed that the current escalation into the six-year investigation into Claudia’s disappearance remains “very live”.
But a neighbour of the arrested man claimed North Yorkshire Police “haven’t got a clue”.
I don’t think they’ve got a clue what has happened to Claudia
The neighbour said: “They appear to be clutching at straws.
"I don’t think they’ve got a clue what has happened to Claudia.
"He has been spoken to before over the years so why do all this now and then just release him?”
The man was arrested at his work shortly before 1pm on Monday.
Claudia, then 35 and a chef at York University, vanished in March 2009.
