Scotland’s top 10 places to live revealed
SCOTLAND’S “most desirable” postcode has been revealed by the Royal Mail.
G78 includes Barrhead which is known for drugs and violence
A survey found G78 – Neilston in East Renfrewshire – is the best place to live and work.
East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire, each bordering Glasgow, dominated the postcode top 10, which considered proximity to good schools and green spaces as well as commuting times.
The study by the Centre for Economic and Business Research (Cebr) also looked at employment prospects and affordable housing.
Steve Rooney, from Royal Mail, said: “Royal Mail delivers to the UK’s 29 million addresses, six days a week, connecting communities and businesses.
“Our study provides unique insight into the most desirable places to live and work in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, through the lens of the postcode.”
Neilston came out top in Scotland, while Bebington, close to the River Mersey in the Wirral, Morriston in Wales and Craigavon in Northern Ireland were the most desirable in their respective countries.
Mr Rooney added: “The postcode system, with origins dating back more than 150 years, continues to play an integral role in today’s technology-led world.”
Describing G78, which also includes the drugs, violence and unemployment blackspot of Barrhead, the Cebr stated: “The outer city suburbs feature heavily in the Scottish top 10 thanks to the affordable cost of living, lower levels of crime and better schools – compared to the city centre – as well as lower commute times.”
