Jamila Henry, 21, was stopped trying to board a coach in the capital Ankara on Tuesday.

Local police believe she was trying to get into Syria and join militant groups operating there.

Turkish officers contacted Scotland Yard to say they were ready to deport the woman.

Messages and images on her mobile phone suggested she was heading for Islamic State territory, they claimed.

Counter-terror officers were waiting for Henry, who grew up in Streatham, south London, when she flew in from Istanbul yesterday morning.

She was arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts and is believed to have travelled using the passport of her twin sister Jalila.

Relatives said she converted to Islam a few years ago and they have had little contact with her since.

The development follows the arrest on Saturday of a 19-year-old man and two 17-year-old boys, from north-west London, on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts.

An 18-year-old was arrested by West Midlands Police on Monday. All four have since been bailed.

Security services estimate that around 600 Britons have gone to Syria or Iraq to join militant groups.
