WATCH: Drink-driver five times over limit unable to STAND at police station

THIS shocking footage has been released showing a drink-driver who was so intoxicated he was unable to stand up.

The CCTV video shows Robert Hutchinson, 59, in a police custody centre in Worthing, West Sussex, after being arrested.

The unbelievable video depicts Hutchinson slowly rising from his seat, only to then stumble against a wall as he waits for a breathalyser test.

Police said he was so drunk, that an officer had to help him to his feet.

Hutchinson was nearly five times over the legal drink-drive limit - registering 169 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millitres of his breath - after crashing his Nissan Almera head-on into a Ford Ka.

Before the crash, he was spotted driving erratically on the A281 heading towards Horsham, West Sussex, on January 30.

Chief Inspector Phil Nicholas from Surrey and Sussex roads policing unit, said: "The footage shows just how drunk Hutchinson was, yet he thought that it was acceptable for him to drive in that condition.

"It is vital that we get people who think that it's ok to drink and drive off the roads."

Hutchinson, of Horsham, pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance when he appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court on February 23.

He was banned from driving for five years, given an 18-week prison sentence, told to do 300 hours of community service and ordered to pay £85 costs and an £80 surcharge to the 42-year-old female Ka victim who suffered slight injuries.

Hutchinson, who escaped uninjured from the crash, had already served a drink-driving ban after being convicted in 2009, a police spokesman said.
