The hugely popular BBC Breakfast presenter beat ITV's Laura Tobin and her fellow BBC star Tomasz Schafernaker to the gong at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards.

Congratulations Carol! Well deserved!

The popular presenter was pictured arriving at the ceremony, held at Grosvenor House Hotel in central London, wearing a form-fitting wrap dress with a plunging neckline and an empire waistband.

The awards are voted on by members of the entertainment industry – not a panel of judges or committee.

The TRIC website claims: "It is therefore fair to say that the highest accolade of being an Award recipient is that it is the public who have watched or listened to the winners who deem them to be the best."

Carol's fans seemed to agree, with hundreds flooding Twitter to congratulate the 52-year-old on her award.

"You deserve it lady," posted one social media user, adding: "I only believe the weather when you deliver it."

Nick Bloomfield also sent a message to the popular presenter, posting: "Congratulations Carol! Well deserved!"

Another Twitter user, Rae Elizabeth Watson wrote: "Well done to you... You're always smiling"

One fan – perhaps overstating the award-winning weather presenter's influence within the BBC – asked: "Well done Carol. Now can you do someting about getting Top Gear back on the tv?"

The Scottish forecaster thanks her fans for their support, telling viewers on Twitter she "cannot stop smiling".

She tweeted: "Thank you, thank you, thank you for ALL your lovely tweets.

"I am so thrilled to have won my #tricawards. Cannot stop smiling. V humbled xxx"

"Have a fab day," the award-winning presenter added.

The BBC Breakfast forecaster triggered a flood of social media interest last year when she appeared on air with a "bloodshot" and "swollen" eye.

Concerned viewers rushed to Twitter with well-wishes.
