The mouse in Nick Bain's kitchen

Nick Bain was unpacking an order from Tesco in the kitchen of his home in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex on Thursday, when the rodent "leapt out" at him and scurried across the floor.

The 41-year-old managed to capture the animal with his mobile phone camera.

In the footage a shocked Mr Bain shouts "woah, woah, woah - there he goes" as the mouse disappears in the corner of the room.

Mr Bain called Tesco to complain, with the supermarket giants subsequently sending out a team of pest control experts.

The unwanted guest was later captured in a trap but not before it had been "scratching for two nights solid".

Mr Bain, a car salesman, added: "It really was a delivery that I won't forget in a hurry and nor will my wife as she is petrified of mice.

"The mouse definitely came out of the shopping bag - the delivery man handed us the boxes and we took the carrier bags from there.

"It makes you shudder to think what else the mouse did to other people's shopping whilst the delivery was on its way in the van.

"I really wanted to captured it in a humane trap and let it go but after a night of trying to catch it we had no joy."

It was only on Saturday that the Bains' managed to catch the rodent.

Tesco have apologised to Mr Bain and replaced the £85 worth of shopping, as well as sending his wife, 28-year-old beauty therapist Hayley, a bouquet of flowers.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "We've apologised to Mr Bain and the local online food shopping manager has visited him to deliver flowers, a replacement order and a gesture of goodwill.

"A thorough check of the store by pest control found no evidence of further problems, so we're still investigating to find out exactly what happened."
