Posh restaurant staff hit back at 'chav cheap trash' hen party after they left bad review

A BRIDE-TO-BE has been left reeling after an "upmarket" restaurant labelled her hen party "chav cheap trash" in response to her negative online review.

The chaviest [sic] worst most vile people ever to grace our restaurant

Melissa Grogan-Morgan, 27, posted an online rant on the Facebook page of 47 King Street West restaurant in Manchester city centre after being disappointed with the "terrible attitude" of staff.

However, instead of taking on board the constructive criticism, the French restaurant hit back by branding her group of 17 family and friends "vile people" and "absolute trash" who had never experienced fine dining before.

In the flood of abuse, the restaurant also accused the hen party of complaining in an attempt to get their £600 bill reduced.

It wrote: "The chaviest [sic] worst most vile people ever to grace our restaurant.

"Wouldn't know fine dining if it slapped them in their ugly faces! Best thing ever is that they won't return! Bottom of the barrell [sic]."

Ms Grogan-Morgan and her friends were then branded "chav cheap trash", with the restaurant adding: "And five out of 18 of them turned up 1 hour and 10 minutes after the booking time and 'expected' fresh starters...are you having a laugh... Clearly never eaten out in a decent restaurant in their lives.

"What absolute trash they were. We pity the groom!"

The restaurant then accused the group of being the "lowest of the low looking for a reduction on the bill" saying it was "known tactics from trash like this".

It said that the group had "conveniently" ignored the restaurant's no confetti policy and had "littered the place with their rubbish so every guest after them had to suffer their trash", adding the hashtag #nomorecheaphenparties.

Today the Twitter and Facebook pages of the restaurant, where customers include Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal, Sir Alex Ferguson and Coronation Street star Kym Marsh, appeared to have been closed.

Ms Grogan-Morgan, a customer service manager from Stoke but originally from Manchester, was joined by her mother, future mother-in-law and a friend's 12-year-old niece at the hen party.

She said her group wasn't rowdy and had wanted a quiet night.

In her review - which was posted on Sunday - Ms Grogan-Morgan complained that her party had been split between two separate tables, that fresh starters could not be arranged for friends who arrived late and she complained about the "terrible attitude" of the manager.

But the bride-to-be is now in "complete disbelief" at their "rude and arrogant" response.

She said: "I was gobsmacked the lack of good service on the night but for them to post these messages beggars belief.

"It is true the restaurant was nice and the food was fab, however the service was awful."

She added: "I'm just in complete disbelief at how rude and arrogant they have been - it's left a bit of a shadow over the whole occasion.

"It's absolutely shocking customer service - if I'd have treated a customer like that at work I'd have been sacked.

"I can't imagine talking to anyone like that never mind a paying customer. We spent a lot of money were them only to receive a flood of abuse."

Friend Lynsey Herron, who organised the hen do, added: "They were awful things to say, it's not like we were rowdy or carrying inflatable willies and blow-up dolls.

"We were treated with disdain and aggression the moment we got through the door but nothing could have prepared us for these messages."

The restaurant had previously been a big hit with critics since undergoing a £120,000 refurbishment programme and hiring a top chef from a nearby restaurant.

It describes itself as a "modern upmarket French and British Restaurant", which opened in 2011.

However in recent weeks it has had a number of other bad reviews for its poor service.

Today a duty manager at the restaurant said: "I'm not getting involved in this. You'll have to speak to the manager."
