Fury as boys of eight steal handbag from 80-year-old grandmother
POLICE are hunting “two eight-year-olds” who mugged an 80-year-old grandmother.
Their victim said the boys ripped her handbag from her as she walked down the road.
The frail woman, of Sinfin, Derby, said they were no older than nine and 4ft 6in tall.
Both wore hoodies in the attack at 5.45pm on Thursday.
They got away with a purse, keys, bank cards and mobile phone.
It’s despicable
Yesterday residents said a similar theft happened 18 months ago but the thieves were teenagers.
Mick Smith, 59, said: “It’s despicable.”
Glynne Jones, 73, said: “It’s surprising and terrible.”
Karen O’Donnell said: “Maybe if parents were allowed to chastise their kids, this wouldn’t happen.”
Police were trying to identify the boys from CCTV.
Children under 10 can’t be charged but can be given a curfew or taken into care.
