Fury as boys of eight steal handbag from 80-year-old grandmother

POLICE are hunting “two eight-year-olds” who mugged an 80-year-old grandmother.

The woman was attacked after getting off a bus in the Sinfin area of Derby

Their victim said the boys ripped her handbag from her as she walked down the road.

The frail woman, of ­Sinfin, Derby, said they were no older than nine and 4ft 6in tall.

Both wore hoodies in the attack at 5.45pm on ­Thursday.

They got away with a purse, keys, bank cards and mobile phone.

Yesterday residents said a similar theft happened 18 months ago but the thieves were teenagers.

Mick Smith, 59, said: “It’s ­despicable.”

Glynne Jones, 73, said: “It’s surprising and terrible.”

Karen O’Donnell said: “Maybe if parents were allowed to chastise their kids, this wouldn’t happen.”

Police were ­trying to identify the boys from CCTV.

Children under 10 can’t be charged but can be given a ­curfew or taken into care.
