The passenger survey revealed that Thameslink and Great Northern had lowest satisfaction scores

Services from the South-east into London are the most likely to be delayed, the poll of 7,309 passengers found.

Southern trains suffered the most delays but – at 43 per cent – Thameslink and Great Northern had the lowest overall satisfaction score.

Southeastern passengers rated their service at just 44 per cent, while Southern and Abellio Greater Anglia got 46 per cent.

Northern rail companies fared better.

Grand Central, in the North-east and Yorkshire, scored 76 per cent.

First Hull Trains got 69 per cent and Merseyrail 64.

The ratings were based on journeys in the 12 months up to November 2014.

Travellers were asked to rate the availability of seating, condition of the train, cleanliness of toilets and carriages, punctuality, reliability and value for money.
