Noye, 67, is serving a mandatory life sentence after being convicted of murdering Stephen Cameron, 21, on an M25 slip road at Swanley in Kent, in 1996.

He fled to Spain after the stabbing but was extradited in 1998 to face the courts.

Noye denied the killing on self-defence grounds and judges later twice rejected appeals to overturn the conviction as well as turning down an application to reduce his 16-year minimum term.

According to The Sun, he is due to have a parole hearing in May.

On hearing the news, Mr Cameron's father Ken, 68, has spoken of his anger and said his son's killer should never be freed.

Noye should never be allowed out of prison. He is an evil man and has never shown any remorse for what he did

"He left my son dying in the gutter and fled to Spain. I don't believe for a minute he has changed his ways - it's a load of old rubbish. He'll always be a dangerous man," he told the paper.

"Noye should never be allowed out of prison. He is an evil man and has never shown any remorse for what he did."

Kent Police and the probation service met to discuss Noye's application last week, according to The Sun.

Former probation union chief Harry Fletcher told the paper" "It is unusual for a lifer to be released after the first Parole Board hearing. But it paves the way for their freedom."

A Parole Board spokesman told the paper: "We do not discuss individuals."
